Battlefield: Bad Company 2™

Postby SayUNKLE » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:36 am

COMING MARCH 2nd 2010
This title looks VERY interesting. The answer to MW2's IWnet. Dice promises dedicated mods and pc dedicated server support!! Now thats gaming!!!

One of the many volleys in DICE's Battlefield Bad Company 2 marketing campaign meant to sway Modern Warfare 2 loyalists towards its upcoming shooter was the promise of dedicated servers for PC players.
There are rumors that you must host thru only ONE server company but this is simply rumor.
To be honest, I have no problem dedicating funds to one resource if they provide customized servers I expect from PC gameplay.

About the Game

Battlefield: Bad Company 2™ brings the award-winning Battlefield gameplay to the forefront of PC gaming with best-in-class vehicular combat and unexpected "Battlefield moments."
New vehicles like the ATV and a transport helicopter allow for all-new multiplayer tactics on the Battlefield.
With the Frostbite-enabled Destruction 2.0 system, you can take down entire buildings and create your own fire points by blasting holes through cover.
You can also compete in four-player teams in two squad-only game modes, fighting together to unlock exclusive awards and achievements.
Battles are set across expansive maps, each with a different tactical focus. The game also sees the return of the B Company squad in a more mature single-player campaign.

■Squad Up: Compete as the lone wolf or together in 4-man squads with up to 32 players and multiple game modes including the all new Squad Rush!
■Defining Online Warfare: Become the master of land, sea and air on vast battlefields designed for wide open warfare on Ranked Servers.
■Intense Solo Campaign: Join Bad Company in a fight through deadly jungles, desert cities and vast arctic terrain on a mission to defuse WWIII.
■Tactical Destruction: Create new firing points, chip away enemy cover, and bring down entire buildings full of enemy combatants

Well I used the last of my Steam gift certificates on the Battlefield 2 Bad Company Pre Order. This allows access to the online BETA demo.

I played for a little while last night. Here are a couple of thoughts.
Note This is a BETA demo and is noted that this is NOT the game to be released
but rather a general idea of the games format and style.

Menu:
*The menu system is nicely done. Intuitive and simple.
*Server browser little sluggish but allowed adding/inviting friends
*Online stats connection / registration setup was simple and never left the menu system

Gameplay:
*In the demo you play one map in a defend and assault like gametype. Defend waypoints for one entire match while enemy assaults the waypoints and tries to detonate bomb at waypoint.
*You can join 4 classes with their own skill, weapon and gadget.
Like COD you aquire points in the game for kills, repairs, detonating waypoints, etc... These points tally up at the games end to get you closer to the next rank.
*New ranks unlock additional weapons and gadgets

*Join as one of four classes : Assault, Engineer, Medic, .....forget last one
*Being airdropped onto the live battlefield adds a nice touch.
*You immediately have choices of a tank, 4-wheel ATV, Assault helicopter, etc... Most vehicles allow for multiple players. (Flying in choppers is very cool!!!)
*I chose to go on foot to get familiar with the controls and techniques. Movement was a little clunky at first but quickly became familiar.
*Considering you may have to run a bit it is nice that you can run non stop in this game. No 4 second sprint time.
*You can play as a squad or run as a solo Rambo.
*I liked the gun play. Seemed more life like with kick, accuracy and penetration.
*Nice open world like feel. Plenty of buildings, rubble and landscape to plan your attack or setup your choke point.
*Graphics were perhaps not as nice as MW2 but I will wait for the final version before making any official comments.

SayUNKLE BETA DEMO FEEDBACK via BF2 forums:
http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/batt ... -demo.html

* Random non voluntary movement.
i.e continous movement in one direction until jump or esc is performed

*Lack of side strafe while running.

*Occasionally run does not function until death and respawn

*Bullet damage not consistant ( I understand that the player may have lowered health upon impact more than other times.
But a shotgun to the head 3 times within 10 yds should drop someone like a fly. But they do not always. Yet the .45 they fire back with kills you in 2-3 shots to the body.

*Would be nice to control a gun while flying copter (unless I missed it). This makes everyone not want to be the pilot....and it sits occasionally because of this.

*Way Point markers need improvement visually and informative.

*armed bomb siren is not audible very far from waypoint.

*Armed bomb notification needs improvment

*Again I probably missed it but could not locate a "prone" position.
available in FULL VERSION

*Lack of spawn point options.

I really enjoy this title but to help make this game the best it can be, the above are some bugs that stood out on my first 6 hours of gameplay.
Please feel free to comment or add bugs to the list

Happy Gaming!

Glad to hear it. I really like the games BETA version. It offers the possibility of custom mods, maps and dedicated servers.
A few bugs need to be visited but I am confident the final product will be a MW2 conversion.
Meaning, players that enjoy MW2 and want all the features that PC Dedicated servers can offer will migrate.
I would expect this to be prime time for Infinity Ward to release some new maps in response. Mark my words.
A great battle of developers only benefits us (the consumer).
