MAG

MAG- a PS3 exclusive that some of you may have heard about. Big head turner is its 256 player servers. Sounds like a lot of spam, but it is well structured. The maps are huge, and consist of multiple fronts. teams are broken down into smaller and smaller groups, like in the army. Usually they are broken down into 32 man units, and each unit is generally assigned one section of the map. That unit is broken into 4 different 8 man squads. This game has ranks like COD, but they actually matter here for more than just weapons. The highest ranked member of each squad is its leader, and he can call in bonus things, and he gives bonuses to those surrounding him. There are leaders for the different levels of units have different bonuses.

There are several gametypes, but they all include multiple objectives, so it isnt everyone going to the same spot. Besides the main objectives, there are also support buildings around the map that can be captured. They provide various bonuses or extra vehicles, and are not unlike support nodes in UT3.

no i don't at the moment, but i am considering getting it. I thought i would mention it here first because of the squad structure. It would make it a lot of fun if the entire 8 man squad was buddies that you know and not just any random idiots. It seems very team and objective orientated, and that seems like something you UNKs might like.

Only hope it teams you up better than MW2, the way MIC talks about it on the PS3, you could eat dinner between games.

The only time i'va had to wait a long time for games was when people would just keep leaving, leaving insufficient players to start, causing ti to restart the countdown every time.

finally got a copy of the game, and it requires a lot of teamwork. No Rambo possible in it. As I have mentioned you are broken up into squads, but you need your other squad to succeed.

In the sabotage game type, there are two stations that need to be captured at first. Note: captured, not destroyed. And you have to have control of both simultaneously, while the other team can capture them back. There are 4 squads per team, so 2 attack each station, but no matter how good you and your group do, if the other group fails while attacking their objective, you can't win. I am not a fan of this game type, it seems a little weighted. The defenders spawn right next to the stations, and they don't need to hold both, giving them the advantage

Acquisition: attackers have to steal 2 enemy vehicles from within the enemy base, and drive them out safely. Requires a LOT of teamwork. If you manage to go and get the target vehicle, you have to get it out. Luckily there are multiple routes to take, however there are road blocks or gates on each that must be destroyed by c4 placed by infantry(timed and can be disarmed, much like the explosives on the m-com stations in battlefield). For defenders, you just have to defend your side and hope that your teammates on the other side don't screw you over and lose 2 vehicles. There are buildings scattered around for the defenders. Bunkers provide spawn points and a machine gun/rocket turret. AAA bunker denies attackers to use air support, and when destroyed, allow the attackers to bring in a helicopter that serves as a spawn point inside the enemy base. Very useful for reinforcing your attack quickly instead of having everyone have to run in from the outside again. While it isn't necessary to destroy these buildings, it is recommended. However, the defenders can rebuild them if they get back over there. So the attackers need to further divide their forces to keep the defenders from rebuilding. And if the driver, road clearers, or building clearers fail, they might all fail, and have to start over from the outside and fight their way in again. Because there are 2 different fronts, you have 2 different groups of 16 guys trying it, and while some things affect both like the AAA bunker(there is only 1for whole map), other things like regular bunkers are just on the sides, so one may fight through theirs while the other is stuck at theirs.

I haven't played domination yet, which seems to be the most interesting, and it's the only type with 256 players (other types only have 128). You need to be level 8 to play it and I am only level 5.

This game seems to play differently than others, and it took me a while to get used to it, but I finally am, and I really like it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes teamwork.
